The Brazilian Design Biennial has been run by ADG Brasil since 1992, and is the country's most established design exhibition. After a pandemic hiatus, the 14th edition relaunched in Aracaju — a first for the event — with 1,654 entries judged by 200 professionals and a curator from Sergipe, the most diverse jury in its history. 791 projects were selected across 15 categories and 70 subcategories; 110 were shown in a main exhibition of over 2,000 m², which drew more than 7,000 visitors from 20 states. It also brought PretADG, a dedicated exhibition of Black Brazilian designers. Its catalogue has been the standing record of Brazilian design for over three decades.

As one of ADG's directors, I was part of the eight-person team that put the Biennial together, start to finish. I worked across several fronts — identity, jury, communication — and led two. First, the platform that carried the entries through to selection. Second, the catalogue: 544 pages, 791 works across 15 categories, the record of five years of Brazilian design.
The Biennial identity drew on Parafusos, a dance from Sergipe — an ancestral movement of liberation and resistance. Mirrored 3D forms carry traces of the dance into the landscapes, textures and colours of Aracaju, spinning memory and future into one gesture.
